In this modern world of social media how do we find the time to work?
A day in the life of an average person (me):
Getting out of bed
First thing in the morning the alarm on my iphone goes off to tell me it is time to get out of bed. Lazily I lean over and switch on the radio to stop myself from falling back to sleep. I touch sleep on the alarm to give myself a few extra minutes in bed. I jump at the sound of the reminder alarm and this time slide my phone to unlock to stop the alarm going off again. Before getting out of bed I glance through my emails to see if there is anything important that has come in over night. My facebook icon tells me I have 5 new notifications so I open up to see who has liked or commented on my recent post. With facebook open a quick glace at the news tells me about the latest film starts escapades and that my friends son has got engaged. Up to date with the “news” I get out of bed and get ready for my day.
Morning
Over breakfast I listen to my favourite digital radio show on my ipad and send a couple of chat messages to family and friends. A few rounds of Words with friends and Candy Crush, yes sadly I am now an addict and it is time to get on with my day.
Time to work, first I need to check facebook with my business account to post an update on my page then over to linkedin to see what is happening there. My phone is tunned in to the lasted tweets from the people I follow the most and pops up with messages telling what they are doing or saying. A few pins on pinterest and a quick look at youtube, I notice time is passing by and I have not washed the dishes or done the planned shopping. Glancing round the cupboards with my iphone in hand I update my digital shopping list before using my travel app to give my directions to the new low cost supermarket the shopping godess told me about on Facebook. I use my parking app to pay for my parking and get my shopping taking care to cross each item off my list as I wonder round the supermarket. I can help but be drawn to the latest picture my friend has posted on facebook of her cat.
Lunch already
Time to work, wait my daughter is messaging me from school to ask if I can make a doctors appointment for her. I logon to the doctors booking system and work my way through the complex screen to make the booking.
Time to work, my son calls to say he has mould growing in his student flat and what should he do. Being an expert on mould I reach to google and start to find out about all the deadly dangers of mould.
Time to work, I review my emails to see what needs to be done today and find that in my 100 plus new emails there is a really interesting story about baby whales, now I have never been interested in baby whales before but the cute picture and the article draw my attention.
Time to work, Oh wait, I have just spotted the ideal job on Linkedin, shall I apply for it. I read the details, checkup the profiles of other candidates and start to fill in my application, almost done, the phone rings, it is a friend asking me to go for coffee. Well why not I’ve been working all day, I just need to finish this application, oh no where has it gone, oh well I will do it later!
Back from coffee
Time to work, I glance at iphone and see it is almost 4pm. I must go and get some exercise at the gym and as I work at home it is better to go before the office workers arrive. Before going out I check facebook to see what has been mentioned on my new post and accept an invite to a meeting.
Time to work, no better make dinner.
Time to work, what was that post someone sent me, aw how cute.
Time to work, oh too late time to go to sleep 🙂 I fall asleep to the gentle bleeping of my phone telling me someone is waiting for my move in Words with friends 🙂
