Galapagos – Life on a Catamaran
I had never spent a long time on a small boat before so was a bit nervous about how I would feel. We could have toured in a larger boat but choose the catamaran as different experience for us both. We had also hoped to sail but unfortunately there were some technical faults that prevent us from sailing.
The Nemo II, our home for 7 nights was a luxury catamaran. It had 7 cabins for guests, we had a double cabin, most others had bunk beds. The crew berths were at the front of the boat inside the hauls. There were 6 members of crew, Captain, 2 general helps, steward, cook and our tour guide.
The boat had an indoor seating area where e had our daily briefings, on out door eating area where all the delicious meals were served and a top deck seating area which was great to sit on as we sailed in good weather.
It took me a day to find my sea legs and Barrie told me the toilet is named the head on a boat for the reason your head may be often down it. Once I settled into a routine a loved the experience.
The cook did an amazing job making great meals for 20 people in a small kitchen on the ship. Breakfast was at 7am each day, lunch at 12 noon and dinner 16.45pm most evenings.
Most of the time the seas were relatively calm although we did have one very stormy journey where we were bounced around a lot. Barrie popped on deck to see the waves and his hat blow off!
All in all we were very pleased with our choice and would definitely recommend Nemo II as a great way to see the Galapagos.
