Sunday evening was Rosh Hashana (Jewish New year).
To mark the occasion I planned a nice meal for us. To obtain all the necessary ingredients we headed off over the bridge to a area we had not yet explored that has some Kosher shops. I had found a few shops on Oak street so first stop was Sabra bakery. I was anticipating a lovely bakery but it turned out this “bakery” did not appear to make the bread but just sell it. I asked for a round Challa and was told none available unless I had ordered …. Fortunately they did then offer a current Challa which I accepted together with 4 bagels. We asked where we could get meat from and were told up the road. Thinking “up the road” would not be far we set off walking but it turned out up the road was a few kms and took a god 20 minutes. On the walk we passed what looked like a lovely botanical gardens as well as some fantastic large houses.
When we finally got to Omnitsky Deli I was able to get cooked chicken / meat and salads for dinner. AS the walk had been long Barrie kindly went back and fetched the car and we decided to visit the Van Dusan gardens we had walked past. What find, the gardens were really beautiful, well kept and lovely planting and lake areas. We spent a couple of hours walking round the gardens and then drove to the university to pick Hannah up.
Back up at the apartment I decided it was not Rosh Hashana without honey cake so found a recipe and went to the shop below our apartment to get all the ingredients. Hannah did say that it would have been cheaper to just buy a cake but it was a fun thing to do for Rosh Haashana. We sat down to a lovey 3 course meal with Challa and salads, Chicken and veg and finished with straberries, honey cake and ice cream.
Hannah stayed over night and the next day we headed out to Lynn park and suspension bridge. We had decided not to go to the famous Capolino suspension bridge as it wa expensive and also long. As we enterened Lynn park we saw a sign saying the suspension bridge was closed 30th Sept to 1st November which was disappointing however we decided to carry on and go for a walk. As we got near to the route and suspension bridge we saw it was actually open so were able to cross and continue to so a 5km walk through the woods following the river Valley. The walk was a mix of flat and some steep up and down sections with wooden steps. Some of it was a struggle but I managed.
After our 3 hrs walk we returned to the apartment to rest and then went downtown for dinner. The plan was for a nearby Italian but when we got there it was full so we headed a bit further to another Italian we had spotted, Zefferelli’s. After dinner we took Hannah back to her dorms and returned for our last night in our lovely luxury apartment.
