First full day in Vancouver

by admin4blog September 26, 2019 No Comments

After  a nights sleep.  We woke to a sunny day.

Hannah had classes in the morning so we arranged to meet for lunch at the university.

The university was about 5km from our apartment and as the weather was lovely we decided to walk there via the beach.  The walk was lovely and was flat most of the way except for the final bit to go uphill to the university.  We passed dog beaches and naked beaches but decided to keep our clothes on!!

The dog rules on the beach are quite complex, no dogs, dogs on leashes only,  dogs can run free, no commercial dog walkers, but clearly this last rule was not followed as we saw a few people with 10 or more dogs with them.

We arrived on campus just at the right time to meet Hannah coming from class.  Having walked for over an hour we then walked another 30 minutes to the other side of campus for lunch and found a German restaurant.  The food was was excellent although the service a bit slow.   It was fascinating to watch the expensive cars go past the window.  Hannah explained that the university campus is a mix of student buildings, student accommodation and expensive private accommodation.   It is beautiful place to live for those that can afford the prices.

After lunch we left Hannah to go back to classes and strolled to the UBC Botanical Gardens which were lovely and peaceful, unfortunately some of it was closed but they did not charge us entrance due to this and we just gave small donation..

Before heading back we  explored more of the campus around the beautiful gardens, totem pole and giant skeleton in UBC biodiversity museum.

It really is a lovely place to study and we were fortunate Hannah was there as it is a part of Vancouver most tourist would not go to.

Barrie decided we had not walked enough so we headed back to the aprtmnent (5kms) on foot again.   I must admit during this walk it all became too much and my feet were really hurting.  As we got near the apartment we found a Pizza Hut and got a pizza to take home.  We settled in for another early night still not certain of the the timezone.
